Aside from my work as a Clinical Social Worker and therapist, the written word is my life, both reading it and penning my own. I revel in books, stories, and words. I believe that being a writer is one of the most crucial lines of work to our culture and society at large. Writers elicit change. They shape and can even alter beliefs and behaviors. They educate and advise. They shine a light on things that were attempted to be kept hidden, when they desperately needed to be seen and spoken of. Writers comfort and offer emotional support. They can gift us with a sense of, “wow, me too,” and the feeling that we aren’t alone in whatever experience our life might be. Writers bring people together with their stories and thoughts. They heal hearts and teach empathy. They challenge others to think more deeply and more critically. They transform people, lives, and can even shift the world on its axis.

We need writers. The health, wisdom, healing, and continued growth of our culture and humanity depend on it. The human spirit relies on us.
